St Giles
My name is Sheila Pope; I work in the office at St Giles Brighton and a couple of years ago I noticed that some of our students were using a very smart blue rucksack to carry their books around. I asked if I could have one and have been using it ever since. I travel to work by motorcycle so it carries my handbag, my sandwiches and water bottle, sometimes even my shoes, plus all the other things I like to have with me every day at work. It’s been with me on day trips and is very useful carrying my shopping when I go to the supermarket!
It’s wearing very well: the stitching, straps and zips are all in good condition and although the bottom is a little bit worn inside, there’s no sign of the bag coming to the end of its life. I have packed the front pocket with lots of items (hairbrush, first aid kit, emergency chocolate bar!) and the small pocket inside also carries more than it should do (train timetable, emergency money, hand cream) – but even though I have stuffed the two pockets with all these items, I’m often surprised at how much the bag can carry inside. I’ve customised my bag: my friend gave me two keyrings when she visited New York and I attached these to the zips to make them easier to hold and I put another keyring from a visit to Dublin on the front pocket zip.
If you study at St Giles in any of our worldwide locations you will receive a free rucksack; it’s very useful to carry your books to and from your accommodation each day. Here are a couple of photos of me and my St Giles rucksack…
